The Student Centre is a dynamic hub designed to foster social interaction, recreation, and community engagement within the heart of the IBA campus. Conceived as a complete facility for students, it integrates a range of spaces, including lounges, a computer lab, societies’ offices, indoor play areas, a gym, badminton courts, a dining hall, and a coffee shop. At its core, the architectural language balances openness and intimacy, creating an environment that is both vibrant and inviting.
From the moment of arrival, visitors are greeted by an interplay of angular forms and landscaped elements. Two bold, tapered triangular masses define the structure, intersecting at a pivotal point that houses one of its most striking features—the rooftop amphitheater. Faced with the challenge of space constraints, the architects seamlessly integrated the amphitheater into the roof, transforming it into an extension of the landscape. A gracefully sloping ramp, covered in lush grass, leads to this elevated gathering space, making the building appear as though it emerges organically from the ground. This integration of greenery not only enhances the visual appeal but also serves as a natural insulator, contributing to the building’s sustainable design.
Internally, the spaces unfold through a series of connected platforms, with double-height volumes introducing openness and visual connectivity. Natural light filters through recessed glazing, illuminating the interiors and offering framed views of landscaped courtyards. The interior palette is youthful yet sophisticated, featuring natural materials, exposed ceiling ducts, and custom vinyl graphics designed by the architects themselves. These graphic elements add vibrancy, while the thoughtful arrangement of communal and intimate spaces encourages interaction and informal gatherings.
