The IBA Visiting Faculty Hostel project embodies a balance of form, function, and aesthetics, aimed at providing a comfortable yet modern accommodation experience for university faculty. The architecture and interior design focus on fostering a sense of community while respecting the need for privacy and relaxation, critical for visiting professionals.

The exterior architecture employs a modernist approach, incorporating clean lines, large glass windows, and a minimalist facade that promote natural ventilation, abundant daylight, and unobstructed views of surrounding green spaces and waterbodies, embracing an architecture that harmonizes with its environment. By blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, the architecture seeks to cultivate spaces that inspire and rejuvenate, fostering a profound connection with nature and enhancing resident’s wellbeing.

The buildings are arranged to create an open courtyard at the center, enhancing natural light flow and ventilation. This arrangement not only maximizes space but also encourages interaction among faculty members by providing a communal gathering area. Large windows open into these courtyards reinforce the sense of continuity between the indoors and the lush landscapes beyond, highlighting a commitment to a lifestyle where nature and architecture coexist. Recognizing the transient nature of the faculty members’ stays, the design focuses on creating a sense of belonging through careful attention to inviting spaces and effortless transitions between indoor and outdoor areas that encourage exploration and relaxation. The theme is continued in the private rooms with large windows that maintain views of surrounding greenery, reinforcing a commitment to mental wellbeing and grounding residents in their natural surroundings.

Outdoor spaces are equally integral to the hostel’s design. The landscaped courtyard, dotted with green patches and seating, offers a quiet sanctuary for faculty members to unwind or engage in casual conversations. Thoughtful elements like strategically placed benches and small water features add to the serene setting, inviting guests to spend time outdoors.

In terms of sustainability, the facility incorporates energy-efficient lighting and ventilation systems. The integration of eco-friendly technologies contribute to minimizing the hostel’s ecological footprint, setting an example of environmentally conscious living.

The building facade uses a blend of earthy and neutral tones, designed to harmonize with the natural environment, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere, drawing visitors inward and firmly anchoring the structure within its natural context. This combination of materials – particularly the contrast between the glass and concrete – creates a visual play of light and weight, with the lighter face highlighting communal spaces.

The IBA Visiting Faculty Hostel is a blend of functionality, comfort and sustainability, crafted to provide a nurturing environment for academic professionals during their stay.
